With modern technology, science, and even religion, the world had for the most part lost magical ability, save for a few. Even those who were gifted, were limited to small ‘tricks’, without much consequence. The great Harry Houdini, David Copperfield, and a more recent example such as Criss Angel, were just about the limit of modern magical ability.

The Commonwealth of Mesacenturia, with its submerged and floating cities scattered across the globe, had always had magical artefacts and elements. Even some of its citizens possessed minor magical ability. However, it had only been recently that two of its citizens demonstrated more than capable possession and control of the ability. Those citizens happened to be Lance Simon Curtis, better known as King Simon I, Mesacenturia’s Sovereign; and, his Royal Consort, Justin Michael Tevannis.

On February 4, 2007, the Commonwealth’s government tabled its first budget. It had been a year previous that the same piece of business brought down the former government, bringing about Keslo Deacon’s election as Prime Minister, not 3 weeks after Lance became Sovereign.
